The whooper swan is a migratory bird that leaves it’s home in Iceland in early November to spend it’s winter holidays in Ireland.  It then leaves  in March.  It therefore seems to move with the equinoxes.  Like other migratory birds it was associated with taking the souls of the dead to the otherworld and bringing the new souls when they return.  This myth persists in the story of the stork bringing babies in its beak.  My swan is a layering of concentric circles, a common motif in irish megalithic art.
