The work is based on the European folk tale The Swan Maidens. In Ireland as in Europe swans featured heavily in myth.  The most persistent one is the notion of the woman who can change into a swan by means of a magic “swan suit”.  Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake was inspired by these stories.  In all the stories the man finds a swan who is in fact a swan woman, he kidnaps her and hides her suit but she finds the suit escapes and he has to follow her and find her amongst hundreds of other identical swans.  She then returns with him.  The idea of a suit that is white and allows you to fly seems to me like a science fiction story.  In my work she is travelling through space when something goes wrong!
